Summer is in full swing and I’m excited to have joined a group of talented bloggers to share how we refreshed our homes for the summer months. Follow the links at the end of this post for even more inspo and ideas on how to spruce up your homes this season.

Today I’m sharing our recent back deck makeover. All it took was a couple cans of paint and some new styling with stuff I already had to give this outdoor space the refresh it needed. My husband is the painter in this family so I’ll have him share some outdoor painting tips and tricks in another post for anyone who is ready to tackle a similar outdoor project this season!

Let’s start with some before pictures…

Deck Before

This was the deck when we first bought the house. It was painted a neutral beige that matched the siding as well as the fence. It wasn’t in bad shape, but after 3 winters of shoveling and normal wear and tear, it was time to be repainted.

For the deck we chose Sherwin Williams Super Deck Deck stain in Alabaster White for the railings and bench and a darker taupey brown called Buckhorn for the treads and the rest. I pulled colors from the rest of the exterior to tie the deck in with the rest of the house. I chose a two tone look to add some dimension and style and I love how it gives the look of new “expensive” decking. This is an easy trick to give new life to an old deck without having to dish out the cash for getting brand new expensive decking installed. After that I just added some potted plants and brought out some teal and blue decor I already had lying around to create a peaceful outdoor oasis. We love to sit out here on summer nights, grill, roast marshmallows and have some nice cold refreshments.
