Hello friends! I can’t believe it’s taken me this long to share this project with you guys considering my friend and I made this desk during the spring! It had been sitting in her garage for a while waiting to be sanded and stained, then once it was stained it ended up on my back deck until our hardwood floors were done. But here she finally is…in her new home:)Computer Desk Area

All we knew when we were trying to figure out how to set up this room is that it somehow needed to function as a mini office space with room to put a small computer desk. But I didn’t want it to “look” like an office…more of an extension of the living room, if that makes sense. I also didn’t feel like paying $500 for a new desk. That’s when I found the plans for this Shanty 2 Chic/Ana White “Fancy X Desk”…it only cost about $60 in supplies. We adjusted the size a little to fit the space.

I chose to keep the wood on the lighter side & wanted that “weathered look.” I used a coat of Minwax Weathered Oak then a coat of Special Walnut, then a Coat of White Wash, then sanded by hand & poly’d. Honestly, I sort of just winged it, and I could have done better, haha. I was impatient;) I may end up re-staining in the future. I found a great staining tutorial by Jen from House of Wood if you are looking to tackle this project and get that “restoration hardware” look. I highly recommend using this tutorial.

Sources: This chair was a Homegoods clearance purchase for $14.99. I bought 2 to use outside but I kind of like it in here until I find a white slipcovered one I like. I threw a sheepskin rug over to make it a little more comfortable & cozy. I hope you guys like my new “office space”! If you want to make one of these desks on your own, this is the plan we used. Or, if you live in MA and want to order one from my talented friend Sonya, you can reach out to her at This N’ That Designz or on her instagram. Really, she’s the one that made this, I was more of her “assistant”;) This was her first ever furniture build and she keeps offering to make me a new one because her business has grown drastically since then, but I love this one and I’m keeping it Sonya! “flaws” and all 🙂

I promise to show the full reveal of this room soon so you can see exactly how we set it up and made it work as an office space & sitting room. I always love to hear feedback from you guys, please feel free to leave any ideas, suggestions or comments below!

xoxo Layla
